FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What does the tutoring include?

The per lesson price includes:

  • The preparation of the lesson. Most of the lessons I give are unique, designed specifically for the student. This will include a review of any gaps in understanding revealed by the homework.

  • The lesson. This is 45 minutes - but we often overrun depending on the capacity and energy levels of the student on the day!

  • Homework, specific to the students needs, provided after the lesson. This provides a helpful indication of what the student has understood from the lesson.

When are the lessons?

Lessons are usually on weekdays after school, at 16:00, 17:00, 18:00 and 19:00.

During school holidays lessons are arranged at a mutually convenient time. This is usually only for 11+ and GCSE students near the time of the test/exams.

What do I need?

A device that is large enough for your child to see what I am showing them, it needs a camera and it can’t be handheld as your child will need both hands free. They will need to be able to “write”on the screen using a mouse, touchpad or ideally a digital pen.

You will need an internet connection. The stronger the better!

What about safeguarding?

All of the work done by your child is confidential, neither the work nor anything about the work will be shared with others.

I have dbs certificates relating to the work I have done with the local primary school and as Chair of the local scout group while in the UK. My most recent dbs certificate was issued on 2 September 2020. The certificate number is 001708326038.

Following our move to Canada in 2021, I was involved in teaching maths in the local middle school that my children attended. I had a comprehensive police check done in connection with this. I also help coach badminton and football at the school.

You are asked to be in the house/building with your child for the lesson.

How does the maths tutoring work?

You email or call me, to arrange a time for a conversation between us covering:

  • your child’s situation and needs,

  • your situation and needs,

  • how we might work together to address these needs?

  • I may provide you with some friendly assessment questions for your child to do to get an initial indication of your child’s understanding across a range of areas.

  • We have a few lessons on selected topics and then take it from there on a regular, usually weekly, basis. You are not required to signup to a programme or financially commit beyond the next lesson.

What is my approach?

My approach is to instil understanding and confidence by giving a child a full understanding of the foundations.
